Twinkle's Just Dance, an over-the-top-awesome collection of impetuous dance hits for kids and families from the award-winning Peruvian-American kindie music phenomenon known as Twinkle.
Described as “like Lady Gaga for kids,” with a super pop sound mixed with a touch of Broadway belt, a sparkling soupçon of hip hop, and plenty of EDM glam, Twinkle has always danced to the beat of her own drum, breaking barriers, sound and otherwise, with both her music and Harajuku-style presentation.
Launched by a childhood saturated with the sound and fury of Top 40 artists like Madonna, Lady Gaga, Gloria Estefan, Michael Jackson, Prince, Selena, Cher, and Shania Twain, Twinkle has forever experienced a gravitational pull in the direction of performers who create the “whole package,” from their infectious melodies and distinctive vocal qualities to their show-stopping presentations and trademark looks. With her own award-winning albums, raise-the-roof concerts, and one-of-a-kind costuming and make-up, Twinkle follows suit, dazzling kids and families nationwide.
Album highlights include the original version of Twinkle’s kindie hit “Kidz Rock,” featuring the incomparable Mista Cookie Jar, whose spectacular warm-up act is the song’s very own, hands-down- ultimate remix produced by Grammy and Emmy award-winner Matthew Gerrard (Kelly Clarkson, Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Big Time Rush, High School Musical) and renowned music programmer/producer Peter Amato (NBC’s The Voice, LeAnn Rimes, Ricky Martin). Gerrard and Amato transformed the original song into what Twinkle has christened, “a certified EDM monster track for kids!”
The nine original songs on Just Dance riff on positive themes ranging from dancing through life and living in the moment to making math-time fun-time, sailing through the solar system, and Twinkle’s personal affirmation that good manners rock. The album’s title track is an uber-passionately delivered preamble with a highly charged rhythmic melody and a thrilling drive to the finish, while the uplifting, inspiring “Better Than You Know” has a simpler, highly grounded, organic feel, yet one that pulses with underlying energy. Reminiscent of the Swing Era, graced by honky-tonk piano and an urgently persuasive walking bass line, “Twinklematics” inculcates math with an irrepressible twenty-first century update of Bob Wills’ Western Swing!
Explains Twinkle, “My concerts have everything that parents and teens would see watching Gaga or Bruno, but with age-appropriate messages and lyrics. Just as mainstream music is accepting of different categories – pop, R&B, hip hop, country, dance, jazz, etc., it’s my hope that all genres would be accepted by the kindie world, too. Why not introduce kids to all styles of music?”
The daughter of a Peruvian mom and a Brooklyn-raised, Romanian-Jewish dad, Twinkle’s first language was Spanish. With sensitivity and balance, she incorporates both Spanish and English into every performance. Her highly anticipated Spanish Album will be released in spring / summer 2019.
Twinkle grew up onstage in show business, performing as a child and teen in L.A. doing TV, musical theatre (playing Bielke in Fiddler on the Roof at the age of seven and taking off on a national tour of Jesus Christ Superstar for a year and a half right out of high school), commercials, and voiceovers. As a tween, she was a series regular in the first Spanish family comedy, Sanchez of Bel Air, for the USA network, and she also had a recurring role on NBC's My Two Dads.
Coming off the road from the Jesus Christ Superstar tour, Twinkle formed the hit girl band, Nobody’s Angel, which was quickly signed by Hollywood Records and released their debut album in 2000. Nobody’s Angel opened for Britney Spears and The Backstreet Boys, sang on movie soundtracks like The Parent Trap, Pokemon, The Wedding Planner, and 102 Dalmatians, and, in 2002, earned a gold record for two of their songs on the Princess Diaries soundtrack.
Twinkle met her husband, co-songwriter, and producer James Dallas when they were both under contract to Hollywood Records. (He was the lead singer and songwriter/producer of the boy band, Youngstown.) Twinkle says with a smile, “We were like the original Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez!”
In addition to songwriting and production duties and being the Twinkle manages the more than 250 Twinkle Time shows she presents each year at performing arts centers, festivals, schools, libraries, malls, and fairs throughout the country, as well as coordinating her media appearances on such outlets as Good Day LA (FOX TV), CNN Espanol, Telemundo, Azteca TV, WGNO-TV (New Orleans) ABC, Univision, KTLA, and LA’s #1 radio station, 102.7 KISS-FM.
The flip side of Twinkle recounts her involvement with First 5 California, an organization that funds programs that educate parents, grandparents, caregivers, and teachers about the critical roles they play during a child’s first five years. Twinkle is also president of a non-profit foundation, The Young Entertainer Awards, which celebrates and honors young entertainers in all aspects of the entertainment industry, providing yearly scholarships to help keep arts and education alive.
Previous albums by Twinkle include Made In the U.S.A. (2012), which was honored with two Global Music Awards (Best Children’s Album and Best Children’s Song), and Twinkle Time(2009).
